As with our elder law work, the ability to see the direct and immediate results of our planning makes special needs planning remarkable. While I don’t have a personal connection with disability through a family member as my inspiration, I do have a wonderful group of special needs clients that I feel connected to and am so glad to have built long-term relationships.

Gain practical experience with an organization that provides support so that you have insight to people, circumstances, and resources of special needs planning. Network with other likeminded professionals. Think about your own superpowers and how best to leverage them to help.
When I think back to the personal experiences of our clients (special needs and elder law) during the pandemic, what inspired me was the resilience of the clients and their caregivers—sheer perseverance of clients, family and friends to work through every issue.
I am a member of a wonderful book club that lets me come and chew through the discussion questions even though I haven’t read the book. I have another theoretical hobby in that I love to buy cookbooks and go to cooking classes in case some day I decide I want to cook. Until then, I love going to wonderful restaurants.
