I went to law school to become an elder law attorney. When I started working for Pi-Yi, though, he got me involved in his 1st party SNT practice and I was immediately hooked. I like the always-quick-pace of our 1st party cases, and fell in love with meeting minor beneficiaries and their families and helping them start a new chapter of their lives.
We help people with disabilities and their families plan for their future.
Join the SNA! The collective knowledge of this organization, and the friendliness of its members and their willingness to help is truly unmatched.
My Great Grandmother, LuLu Sleeper. She lived down the dirt road from my parents’ place when I was growing up. She died at 109! Here’s my favorite story about her: She was well into her 90’s, living alone with her dog and her chickens, when she fell halfway to the chicken coop (she was on her way to feed the chickens–she loved her chickens!). She couldn’t pull herself up, so she said to herself, “Lu you’re halfway there and the chickens need to be fed.” She rolled herself to the chicken coop, fed the chickens, then rolled to the fencing so she could pull herself up. She was the definition of a true Pioneer Woman, and I think of her and my grandmother almost daily.
I dreamed of becoming a magician (right up until I decided to go to law school half-way through my college days!). I still consider the work we do magic, when it works, but I’ll be a sucker for a magic trick!
I remember bringing our four-month-old twins to the SNA meeting in Austin, TX (they are 10 years old now!) and being so tired after sitting in the conference all day, that I bailed on dinner and social plans the whole conference. But truly, my favorite SNA memories are running into friends and colleagues in the hallway or on the porch of the Vinoy at the Stetson SNT conference and catching up. I’m always so proud to be associated with the smartest, kindest people in the practice and so happy to connect with friends.
